Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival opens in six venues across the city
Settle into your cinema seat for more than 80 films in 33 languages across six different venues as the inaugural Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival launches in Brisbane.
The Asia Pacific region stretches halfway around the globe and produces half of the world’s films, so it’s no wonder that the 2014 Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival (BAPFF) boasts more than 80 incredible films from 38 different countries. Running from Saturday November 29 to Sunday December 14 at a number of locations across the city, from Palace Barracks Cinemas to The Courier-Mail Piazza at South Bank and the State Library of Queensland, the festival aims to bring old favourites, new boundary-breakers and small-scale films to a wider Brisbane audience.
From the live performance celebration of Korea’s oldest surviving silent film Crossroads of Youth to two nights of free Taiwanese cinema hosted on QPAC’s Melbourne Street Green, the festival’s 16-day lifespan is sure to enthral, delight and stimulate new questions and conversations. The World Movies Secret Cinema will also be making its debut at the festival, running from Thursday December 11 to Sunday December 14 in a secret location. In addition to film screenings, a number of special events including a Women in Film panel, a Walkley Documentary Award showcase and an animation compilation, will satisfy all tastes.
