The Blurst of Times brings big bands, endless rosé and shotgun weddings to The Valley
“It was the best of times, it was the … blurst of times?” This iconic quote isn’t just a throwback to the golden age before The Simpsons became actually quite awful – it is also the namesake for one of Brisbane’s finest music festivals. What The Blurst of Times lacks in anthropomorphic monkeys, it makes up for in tuneage – we’re talking about a line-up that is stuffed with some of Australia’s best live acts across a range of genres. Taking over three key Fortitude Valley venues on Saturday April 29, Blurst is a one-day rager that ironically promises nothing but the best of times.
Following a successful three years on the Brisbane festival circuit, The Blurst of Times has triumphantly returned in 2017 to tear the beloved Fortitude Valley a new one. The Brightside, The Foundry and Black Bear Lodge will join forces to host the impressive line-up – bands from likes of punk, rock, hardcore and jangly pop backgrounds will all be appearing on the bill. Expect to catch sets from new wave ratbag rockers (and Dune Rats-approved) Skegss, vocal powerhouse and all around badass Ngaiire, quad rock heroes Royal Headache and hometown cult kids The Creases. Punters will also be treated to a show from Brisbane’s premier 12-piece blink-182 cover band, Bris 182 – we don’t really have to explain why this is a must-see.
As if the musical offering isn’t enough to lure you in, festival organisers have teed up a few special treats for this year’s edition. A highlight includes the continued celebration of the season’s most lauded beverage with a Summer of Rosé pop-up bar at The Brightside, as well as some tasty DJ sets from bands who don’t mind staying up late. Word has it there will even be a live Elvis impersonator marrying lovers at The Brightside from 5:00 pm, Brisvegas shotgun-wedding style. Who said romance was dead?
If you’re ready to rumble, grab your tickets to The Blurst of Times through Oztix before they all disappear – last year’s edition sold out, so don’t say we didn’t warn you! You can also scope the whole line-up and timetable here.
