Yachts, art and community celebrated at the Bluewater Festival

As the 68th Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race inches closer so does the commencement of the annual Bluewater Festival, which offers plenty of entertainment beyond the race.

Pristine blue skies, coastal breezes and a high-intensity yacht race – we could think of worse things to enjoy over Easter. The annual Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race draws thousands to Shorncliffe to witness the sleek water vessels kick off their journey north. Coinciding with the event is the Bluewater Festival, which starts with the ‘Bayfire Night’ fireworks on Thursday March 24. Moonlight entertainment, lantern parades, market stalls and gourmet food will be available for those in attendance from 4:00 pm.

On Good Friday the Shorncliffe Pier will re-open after its extensive refurbishment, providing a great spot to watch the race start at 11:00 am. A stage will also be set up on site with live music throughout the day, in addition to roving entertainers, face painting and even a visit from the Easter Bunny. The Bluewater Festival 4017 Bayside Art Trail is returning for 2016, where Northern Bayside Artists will host a multi-media art experience with several artists on hand. For more information on what’s on offer, be sure to follow the Bluewater Festival on Facebook and Instagram.
