Scandalous dance production Blaque Bordello arrives at Judith Wright Centre
A shadowy darkness is sweeping over Judith Wright Centre with the arrival of Blaque Bordello, an entrancing, cabaret-inspired enactment by a powerful troupe of dancers.
Blaque Bordello is a stirring new dance production from the folk behind Blackswan. From today, Judith Wright Centre and the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA) takes Brisbane’s dance devotees into a world of smoke and mirrors, faded velvet, secret trysts and simmering jealousies.
Guest performers Brian Lucas and Jonathan Jeffrey will join ACPA dance majors for a powerful show, as conceptualised and choreographed by Penelope Mullen. ACPA is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing arts training institution, attracting students from urban, regional and remote communities across the country. ACPA’s performers support the cultural traditions of storytelling through words, music and dance.
Blaque Bordello, which runs from June 6–8, will comprise unreserved cabaret seating, so arrive early to be treated to the sauciest views.
