Global Fiesta at South Bank – August 20–22
The next cab off the rank in Regional Flavours three-part food and wine series is Global Fiesta, a continent-spanning celebration of the world’s best eats – from hearty paella to fluffy gnocchi and tantalising tacos. Across three succulent sessions over the weekend of August 20–22, Global Fiesta will spotlight our city’s rich multicultural diversity and fare at South Bank. Bleach* Festival on the Gold Coast – August 12–22
The Gold Coast’s much-loved arts festival is back again for 2021, with BLEACH* Festival kicking off on Thursday August 12 and running until Sunday August 22. Experience an array of captivating art, live music, dance, performance and culinary events across multiple hubs of action across the coast – including Burleigh Heads, HOTA, Mudgeeraba, Currumbin and even the foothills of the hinterland in Springbrook Valley. The iconic art and culture festival’s message to attendees this year is “listen to your heart”, with a line-up of events designed to encourage emotional connection and reflection. BLEACH* Festival will commence with a special sunrise ceremony on Thursday August 12 whilst the action will continue at the Burleigh Heads hub for the duration of the festival, including a brand-new addition of the culinary experience Feast With Us, which will allow festival-goers to experience an array of themes under the stars presented by masterful chefs. Southport will also host a jam-packed line-up of diverse arts and culture events including typographic light installations, sensory experiences, cinematography and disco-inspired performances. Wine & Cheese – New Zealand Edition at Treasury Brisbane – Friday August 27
A delightful clutch of drops will take the stage at Treasury Brisbane’s Wine & Cheese – New Zealand Edition, which will take wine enthusiasts on a journey through New Zealand’s renowned winery regions including Marlborough and Hawke’s Bay on Friday August 27. You’ll be able to taste a well-curated selection of red, white and sparkling wines from makers including Cloudy Bay, Mud House, Craggy Range and Squealing Pig and more. Although the highlight of the evening, the drinkables are just the beginning of this Friday sipping session. Guests will also be able to enjoy two hours of cheese tasting and roving canapes, which will be spread between the Treasury Courtyard, Ryan’s on the Park and The Lab. Boy Swallows Universe at QPAC – from Monday August 30
Arguably one of those most anticipated stage adaptations of the decade, Boy Swallows Universe is adapted from the smash-hit novel inspired by Brisbane author Trent Dalton’s own childhood. An exhilarating story of magic and madness, Boy Swallows Universe follows Eli Bell’s far-from-perfect childhood in the outer Brisbane suburbs in the 1980s. His alcoholic dad has shot through, his mum is in jail, his stepfather’s dealing heroin, his brother Gus won’t talk and silently swirls cryptic messages in the air with his finger, and his babysitter Slim is a convicted killer and infamous escapee from Boggo Road Gaol. Beset by chaos on all sides, it’s a run-in with the local crime king and his henchman that sets the 13-year-old with the old soul on a journey to find out what kind of a man he is going to be. The Village Markets at Windsor State School – Sunday August 8
Attention market lovers! Award-winning boutique market and community The Village Markets is relaunching in Brisbane with its first event on Sunday August 8. Join The Village Markets crew as they celebrate the first market at its new location – Windsor State School – with a boutique market lineup of fashion, vintage, art, homewares and lifestyle stalls by local creative small businesses, as well as street food vendors, live music by Marmalade Parade, beats by super-fun DJ duo In The Flowers and pre-loved designer and vintage rack sales. Remember to bring your reusable tote bags so you can shop up a storm!
