Whether you like it or not, Christmas is approaching flat out like a lizard drinking. You may think planning in November is premature but we can assure you that December 25 is going to sneak up on you like a ninja if you don’t get your act together ASAP. One of the best places to shop for festive fare is at your local markets, where you can pick up plenty of unique and handmade goodies to please everyone on your list. Luckily, Brisbane is bursting at the stocking seams with high-quality Christmas markets – here’s our pick of the bunch from now until the main event.

Brisbane Etsy Made Local – November 24 and 25, Bowen Hills
Christmas markets don’t come much better than Brisbane Etsy Made Local, a haven of handmade treasures that brings together some of the state’s best makers all in one spot. Held on the Friday night and all day Saturday, this one-stop shop is a chance for you to meet the makers, designers and collectors from Etsy’s vast online creative community, as well as kick back with some delish food truck eats and live tunes.

QAGOMA Store Christmas Design Market – November 25, South Bank
When it comes to Christmas markets, the QAGOMA Store offering is incredibly hard to go past. Each year the offering is a collection of some of Brisbane’s best makers, combining stockists from the store with pop-up appearances from awesome indie brands. Get your hands on goods from the likes of Paper Boat Press, Yippywhippy, Bambambu Homewares, Clairy Laurence Ceramics and loads more.

Vieille Branche Christmas Design Market – November 25, Albion
For a touch of Euro chic with your festive shopping experience, you’d best mark the Vieille Branche Christmas Design Market in your diary. This awesome space will be transformed into a bustling marketplace for its annual seasonal market, featuring a beautifully curated edit of wares from Kara Rosenlund, Une Piece, Nico, Shannon Garson Porcelain, Emile and Solange (yum!) and more.

Brisbane Fair Trade Christmas Market – November 25, Nathan
The spirit of giving is one of the things that make Christmas so wonderful, so why not level up those warm and fuzzies by going for gifts with a conscience? The Brisbane Fair Trade Christmas Market brings together a collection of ethical suppliers like Community Projects Worldwide, Oxfam Shop and Siham Craftlink, selling everything from handmade goods to cute decorations – all with loads of heart.

The World Food Markets Christmas Edition– December 2, Newstead and December 10, Corinda
While we all know The World Food Markets as the bringer of delicious food trucks, the beloved institution is creating two amazing festive markets to aid with all of your Christmas needs this year – one at regular haunt Newstead House and one at Dunlop Park. The markets have a distinct European vibe, bringing together 20 food and market stalls selling everything from pre-made puddings to decorations and unique gifts.

Stones Corner Twilight Christmas Market – December 3, Stones Corner
Come December, the lively hub of Stones Corner at Logan Road will be blocked off to traffic and become a full-blown Christmas wonderland. Plentiful gift stalls, lively Christmas carols and loads of activities combine to create a festival-style atmosphere that is perfect for families. Shopping can work up quite the appetite, so you can feast on gourmet from a range of food trucks or sail into one of the main strip’s awesome restaurants for a mouth-watering feed.

BrisStyle’s Christmas Market – December 9, Brisbane City
One of the highlights on Brisbane’s festive calendar is BrisStyle’s Christmas offering, spreading light and joy through the already very heavily adorned King George Square. CBD workers and dwellers are spoilt for choice with the selection of stallholders, as BrisStyle only ever brings on vendors who are 100 per cent locally handmade. There’s also a free craft market that happens on site to keep the little ones busy while you shop up a storm.

Brisbane Vegan Christmas Market – December 10, West End
Plant-based and cruelty free friends, rejoice – the Brisbane Vegan Market is coming on board with a special Christmas edition! You guys have gone nuts for this market ever since it launched in November last year, so it comes as no surprise that the Christmas offering is sublime. Stuff yourself silly with delicious eats and wander through the stalls of ethical gifts up for grabs.

South Bank’s Christmas Village – December 15–23, South Bank
When you want to one-up the local market scene, you create a whole dang village dedicated to Christmas – which is exactly what’s going down at South Bank. The buzzing hub will be even more lively than usual come December 15 and not just for the weekend! For nine whole days, the precinct will be home to a dedicated gift market, village beats, free crafting stations for the kids and even a beach cinema screening festive faves. With all of that going on you might need to make multiple stops to fit it all in.

Wandering Cooks Small Batch Christmas Market – December 16, South Brisbane
The name says it all – this is where you can find your pick of Brisbane’s best small batch makers selling their amazing goods across food, drink, homewares and more. The team from Wandering Cooks definitely knows a thing or two about curating a kick-ass market full of local favourites and emerging talent, and the proof is in the line-up – stock up on gifts from Bee One Third, Nook and Avid Reader just to name a few.

Sandstone Point Hotel Christmas Carnival – December 16, Sandstone Point
Two of the most joyful words in the English language are ‘Christmas’ and ‘carnival’, so when you put them together it’s bound to be a ripper of a time. Sandstone Point is decking its hypothetical halls for this absolute bonanza effort that encompasses all the best parts of a handmade market combined with a fun fair. The kids will be entertained by rides galore as grown-ups can select delightful one-of-a-kind gifts from the market stalls on offer. Plus, if you’ve had it with the Mariah-style carols that have been pumped out around the place you’re in for a treat – the Christmas Carnival’s live performers offer swing and acoustic alternatives (no Mariah homages here).

Carseldine Twilight Christmas Market – December 20, Carseldine
Dear friends to the north, please take note of this one – the Carseldine Twilight Christmas Market is one you won’t want to miss. Coming in hot on December 20, the buzzing market will be chock full of everything you need to make your holidays the most delicious affair ever. Stock up on fresh produce for your Christmas feast, grab some last-minute stocking fillers with a bit of sass and just generally have a great night out with your friends and fam – stress-free is the way here.

Christmas on Cribb – December 21, Milton
The Milton Markets has long been an institution famed for its commitment to supporting local, and its Christmas on Cribb event is no exception. Returning after a hugely successful debut last year, this evening market is one of the chillest places to stock up on your last-minute Christmas provisions and pressies. As well as gourmet festive foods and produce, you can take your pick of a great range of artisan gifts and decorations for sale. Be sure to come on an empty stomach to try out all the delicious eats and brews.
