BANFF Mountain Film Festival arrives at Brisbane Powerhouse

Whether you personally plan on careering the highest peaks on the globe, or just enjoy watching others do it, a world of mountaineering awaits at BANFF Mountain Film Festival. The movie event for adrenaline junkies and extreme-sports fans alike will hurtle into the riverside cinemas of Brisbane Powerhouse this weekend.

BANFF Mountain Film Festival is a celebration of all things mountainous – in fact it’s one of the largest around the world. Every year it is held amidst the snowy city of Banff in Canada and features a renowned film festival of mountain-themed flicks. Straight after this cinematic event, the film festival makes its way around the rest of the world on a tour. In its journey, the BANFF Mountain Film Festival visits 285 communities within 36 countries. The event began in 1976 and today attracts more than 300 entries from all over the world, with entries able to win such awards as Best Film on Mountain Sport, Best Film on Mountain Environment and Best Film on Exploration and Adventure.

Films voyage through some of the world’s most remote landscapes and capture some death-defying experiences had by the best (and most adventurous) climbers.  You can witness all of these exciting endeavours when BANFF Mountain Film Festival screens at Brisbane Powerhouse from April 17–20.
