We’ve been starved of international ballets in the past couple of years but, in a win for lovers of killer choreography, next year will be much different thanks to the exciting arrival of Ballet International Gala. The first major ballet production to be headlined by international artists in Australia since 2019, this bewitching world premiere is coming to QPAC from January 26–30 and is a must-see for balletomanes and dance devotees.

International dance showcases have been few and far between for the past couple of years, but this will all change when Ballet International Gala rolls into town with a troupe of acclaimed professional dancers in tow. Coming exclusively to Queensland, the show will feature a line-up of top-notch toe pointers and limber leapers that have come from all around the world. Event-goers can expect seven breathtaking performances of classical and contemporary pas de deux from some of the world’s most talented principal dancers who reign from iconic institutions like The Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Astana Opera and even our own Queensland Ballet. American Ballet Theatre principals Skylar Brandt and Aran Bell will grace the stage with their performance from Le Corsaire, while the Royal Ballet’s Francesca Hayward and Cesar Corrales will entrance audiences with Swan Lake’s White Swan pas de deux.

The show will continue to surprise and delight when Astana Opera principals Bakhtiyar Adamzhan and Shugyla Adepkhan take centre stage to perform thrilling pieces from Spartacus, whilst Shakespeare’s famous star-crossed lovers will be played by Queensland Ballet’s dynamite duo Mia Heathcote and Victor Estevez for a sizzling scene from Romeo and Juliet. Ballet International Gala will take the antics to new heights when Juliet Doherty and Ballet International Gala co-founder Joel Burke perform their new works, while Paris Opera Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet alumni Dani Gibson and Alexander Smith will showcase their Australian premieres. Oh, and ballet isn’t the only type of dance that will be dazzling audiences. Internationally renowned tap dancer Bill Simpson will perform an exclusive ballet and tap collaboration with the world-class roster of dance superstars. The production will be levelled up with help from a collection of orchestral performers – and even a rock band for the final performance, which is a joint effort between all of the Ballet International Gala artists.

Eager to lay your peepers on this limited series of delightful dances? Head to the QPAC website to secure your seats to this not-to-be-missed ballet production.
