Going for gold – see Australia’s swimming stars race for a spot on the Commonwealth Games team

When it comes to competitive sports, there are few that us Aussies love as much as swimming. It’s not hard to see why – besides the fact that our nation is surrounded by water, the sport itself is pretty damn thrilling to watch. With the Commonwealth Games fast approaching, you might be wondering which of our homegrown legends will be repping Australia in 2018. Well, why wonder when you could watch our country’s best swimmers go head to head for a spot on the team? Coming to the OPTUS Aquatic Centre from February 28 to March 3, the Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Trials promise oodles of action, excitement and fun – both in and out of the water.

Over four days, the Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Trials will provide a taste of what’s to come at the hotly anticipated Commonwealth Games. Australia’s best and brightest stars will battle it out in the pool to earn their place on the team that will be representing the green and gold when the Games hit the Gold Coast in April. Swimming heroes Cam McEvoy, Cate Campbell, Ellie Cole, Kyle Chalmers and Mack Horton will be taking on the country’s best to secure a spot, swimming in a range of events that will get hearts racing throughout the OPTUS Aquatic Centre.

As well as lapping up the action in the lanes, heading along to the Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Trials ensures plenty of fun to be had on dry land. The Centre Lane entertainment precinct will be buzzing with sponsor activations, daily signings and fun activities for the whole fam. If you’ve been hanging out to meet your heroes, this is the place to do it. Hungry punters can fill their bellies with eats from some of the Gold Coast’s favourite food trucks – feast on treats from the likes of Little HavanaBarracaThe Kitchen Garden & Grill and Whips & Co washed down with brews and tipples from Blackboard CoffeeSirromet Wines and Burleigh Brewing.
