Skin becomes a canvas for the Australian Body Art Festival

Hundreds of artists and art fans will be descending on Eumundi on October 17 and 18 for the Australian Body Art Festival.

Although most of us are far too self-conscious to dare to walk around in nothing but a thin layer of paint, many courageous individuals regularly give up their bodies to become a living, breathing piece of art for a short period of time. Body art is an art form that is constantly growing in popularity, as evidenced by the creation of the Australian Body Art Festival, taking place this month on the Sunshine Coast. Over three days artists will compete in painting competitions, run workshops, showcase artwork and party with fans and appreciators alike. The theme for the 2015 festival is ‘POP Trashion’, so expect plenty of vibrant colours and Warhol-like patterns.

The competition portion of the festival is open to anyone, and includes a range of categories including wearable art, face painting, airbrushing, surf and skateboard design and special effects with associated entry fees applicable. Likewise, the workshops are open for beginners through to veterans, run by established artists such as Emma Hack, Nina Neher, Symon Molony and Juliet Bradford. If you prefer to simply enjoy the sights and sounds, entry to the festival is a mere gold coin donation, which goes directly to official charity partner Forget Me Not. Lost Movements has come on board to run the Saturday Night Arts Jam on Saturday October 17 at the Eumundi Amphitheatre, featuring body art painting, graffiti displays, burlesque performances, spoken word poetry and live music from Golden Age of Ballooning, Omegachild and The Con and the Liar. Head to the Australian Body Art Festival website to buy a ticket to ensure your spot in competitions or workshops, then brush up on your painting skills before October 16.

The 2015 Australian Body Art Festival is sending some love to The Weekend Edition readers for Saturday Night Arts Jam. Enter WEEKEND at the checkout and receive your general admission ticket for just $15.
