Fly into Art with Altitude at Airport Village

For ten days, Airport Village will be transformed from a bargain mecca to an artist’s wonderland with the installation of art exhibition Art with Altitude.

This free exhibition is a celebration of contemporary Australian art, inspired by its surrounds with the theme ‘Land to Sky and Beyond’. The area will become home to a huge open-air art space, installed with dozens of temporary artworks from notable members of the Australian art world. Artworks on display will include Girrigun Aboriginal Art Centre’s Bagus, Michael Candy’s Terrariums, and Sue-Ching Lascelles’ Falling for Fireworks.

Visitors will also be able to learn about the indigenous rainforest culture and stories from North Queensland, as well as have a go at rewriting some of the nation’s anthems with an interactive lighting installation. This varied selection of works is the result of careful planning by co-curators Natasha Smith and Megan Cope.

Your perusal of the outside gallery will also be accompanied on select days by live music. Several Brisbane bands will lend their songs to the exhibition with a free musical performance – The Bandito Folk will play August 25, Panda and the Bear on August 26 and Avabaree on September 1.

@ Airport Village, August 24 to September 2.
