QAGOMA is throwing a huge APT9 Opening Night Party – and you’re invited!
We’re going to just go right out there and admit it – we look forward to every third summer in Brisbane more than any other. Why? Because that’s when QAGOMA’s Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art is in town! Seeing as this explosion of life and colour only happens every three years, its opening night is definitely cause for the entire city to celebrate. From 7:30 pm this Friday November 23, both QAG and GOMA are opening up their doors to the public for one heck of a party, filled with DJs, performances, food, drink and of course some awe-inspiring art.
This year marks the ninth Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT9), which promises to bring the exhibition’s renowned mix of vibrancy, creativity and cross-cultural insight in spades. All summer long, QAGOMA will be overflowing with astonishing works that are guaranteed to move and inspire, bringing together significant art from more than 80 artists and groups from more than 30 countries across the Asia Pacific. APT9 will feature never-before-seen installations, sculptures, paintings, videos and photographs from both emerging and senior artists, as well as leading works from indigenous communities and artists. We told you opening night was reason to celebrate!
You can kick off the APT9 Opening Night Party early this Friday November 23 from 5:00 pm at GOMA Cafe Bistro with some afternoon snacks, then head to the GOMA Bodhi Tree Terrace Bar from 6:00 pm for pre-exhibition drinks. The exhibition (and party!) officially kicks off at 7:30 pm, when the gallery doors open to reveal the wonder of APT9, both galleries’ bars open at DJ sets from Jake Steel and Hannah Brontë start at QAG and GOMA respectively. At 8:30 pm, Melbourne duo The Merindas will be bringing their electro-tribal-pop sound to QAG, while over at GOMA you can catch incredible body-centred performance artist Latai 101. The party doesn’t end there – Hannah Brontë will be back at GOMA for another set until the exhibition closes at 10:00 pm. If you can’t make it Friday night, don’t fret! Celebrations will be happening across the entire opening weekend, and APT9 will be here (for free!) until April 28, 2019.
