Snack, sip and catch starlit flicks at American Express Openair Cinemas

Going to the movies as an adult seems to be a rare treat for most of us – it’s so nice to be able to kick back for a couple of hours and truly switch off from the world. While we have no complaints about the traditional formula of popcorn, frozen Coke and blasting air-conditioning, sometimes it’s nice to shake it up and take advantage of our dreamy Brisbane climate. American Express Openair Cinemas is taking up residence in the lush South Bank Parklands from October 6 to November 19, bringing a fresh and seasonal spin to your movie-going experience – trust us when we say this is one instance where the question “Do you want to take this outside?” should be met with the affirmative.

American Express Openair Cinemas is one of those quintessential Queensland experiences that brings together our love of great movies, delicious food and unbeatable weather. This year’s viewing program features an awesome mix of blockbusters, hot new releases and fan favourites lighting up the massive outdoor screen. Top picks include Logan Lucky, The Big Sick, Battle of the Sexes, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Blade Runner 2049, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and even a spooky Halloween screening of It. American Express Card Members can opt in for the VIP treatment at the Invites Lounge, which includes perks like tasty treats and discounted tickets. Non-cardholders can still live it up by purchasing tickets to the Star Lounge, a pocket of paradise with table service and cosy lounges.

The food and drink situation at this year’s American Express Openair Cinemas is pretty much a dream result, with Italian masters Salt Meats Cheese coming on board to provide a series of three alfresco long table dinners throughout the season. Moviegoers can expect to dine on delights such as signature dish truffle pecorino pasta (you know, the one where the pasta literally gets tossed through a cheese wheel) as well as arancini antipasti and wood-fired pizzas. Thirsts will be sated with a dedicated pop-up cocktail bar serving fresh summer classics with a twist, plus 4 Pines beer and Giesen wine available for sipping. As well as top-notch nosh, American Express Openair Cinemas will be playing host to loads of cool events to level up your evening out. Live DJs will get the festival vibes flowing, you can get hands-on in the Crafty Corner or even learn the secrets to hair braiding with rad tutorials – yasss!

If you’re ready for some silver screen action, you can browse the whole American Express Openair Cinemas program of events and purchase tickets through the official website.
