In case you missed the memo – globally renowned accessible-art phenomenon Affordable Art Fair is heading to Brisbane for the very first time from May 9–12. Tickets are now on sale for the fun-filled four-day art fiesta, which will give Queensland art aficionados and budding collectors the chance to explore and purchase original works from some of Australia’s most exciting artists in a relaxed and convivial setting, with prices starting from as little as $100. Thought an original piece was completely out of reach? Think again!

Now in its 25th year, the revolutionary Affordable Art Fair operates in 16 cities around the world and continues to shake-up the industry by offering a fun and accessible approach to art appreciation and buying. Taking over Brisbane Showgrounds for four huge days, the Affordable Art Fair will showcase thousands of artworks from more than 40 independent Australian galleries under one roof. So, no matter if you’re a first-time art buyer on a mission to jazz up your walls or you’re an art buff looking expand your collection, you’re sure to come across a painting, sculpture, installation or photographic work to suit your space, style and spend.

The spotlight will shine brightly on local artists and galleries at the inaugural Queensland Affordable Art Fair, with the likes of Brisbane’s own Red Hill Gallery and Revival Art & Design Gallery, the Sunshine Coast’s Stevens Street Gallery, The Toowoomba Gallery and TBC Gallery on the Gold Coast to exhibit works from local artists in varying career stages, from established names to emerging creatives. A crop of up-and-coming young artists will also be showcased in the curated Discover: Young Talent stand, which will give art collectors the opportunity to snap up early works from rising stars.

Dubbed the single largest gathering of galleries and artists in one location, Australian fair director Stephanie Kelly says every exhibited work is from a living artist, every artwork on display lists a sale price and every artwork is looking for a new home. “Plus, all works are rotated as they sell, so regardless of whether you’re among our most eager first attendees on Thursday or instead choose to celebrate Mother’s Day with a side of art on Sunday, you’re guaranteed a satisfying and soul-brightening day at the fair,” Stephanie adds.

Unlike traditional art fairs, the action-packed Affordable Art Fair invites enthusiasts of all ages, backgrounds and experience levels to enjoy bites, beverages and beats while they browse the aisles of artworks, and immerse in activations, family-friendly fun, live artist demonstrations and workshops. Every corner of the venue will be activated with eye-popping art and installations, from a spectacular 4-m sculpture by Gold Coast artist Dion Parker to flocks of roaming flamingos from the masterminds at Dead Puppet Society. Got the little ones in tow? Great! Creative kids will be kept entertained with free face painting and walk-in drawing and colouring-in workshops at the Children’s Art Studio.

The Affordable Art Fair will be held at the Brisbane Showgrounds from May 9–12, 2024. Tickets are on sale now and for more information, head to the Affordable Art Fair website.
