A Tribute Of Sorts at La Boite

Chuckle along to A Tribute Of Sorts at La Boite

The lives of awkward teenagers is a loveable subject that almost anyone can relate to. Just think Moonrise Kingdom, Superbad and Juno – or really any movie with Michael Cera – and how they left you grinning with their honest storylines.

Bringing the tale of awkward teens to the stage is local theatre-maker Benjamin Schostakowski in A Tribute Of Sorts. Opening at La Boite this week, A Tribute Of Sorts is part of this year’s La Boite Indie season. Centered around two characters, this comical play follows Ivan and Juniper as they complete the peculiar task of reenacting a list of alphabetically ordered unfortunate events over the course of an evening.

Inspired by Edward Gorey’s book The Gashlycrumb Tinies, this new darkly humoured work explores themes of loss, death, love and creativity. Capturing the most outrageous and unfortunate causes of death in a funny way, the show teaches audiences to find humour in the things people can often take too seriously through a vibrant performance with the zest of an eisteddfod. See this local contemporary theatre performance at La Boite Theatre in Kelvin Grove until November 10.
