Fill your tank and fire up your roadtrip playlist – here are the best scenic drives near Brisbane

Jumping in your car and going for a leisurely drive can have many benefits. It’s a great way to explore our beautiful region, it helps to clear your mind and it delivers a feeling of freedom, unlike anything else. Picture this – you’re cruising the open roads, windows down, wind in your hair and your favourite tunes filling the air. Sounds like a movie, right? If you’re currently nodding your head in agreement, then listen up. We’ve partnered with Ferrari Brisbane to give you a list of Brisbane’s best scenic driving routes, tried and tested in the seriously suave Ferrari 296 GTB. So what are you waiting for? Start your engines!

The first scenic route takes you on a hinterland journey from Ferrari Brisbane’s headquarters in Newstead, to Jollys Lookout. Here you can enjoy panoramic views over Enoggera Forest Reserve, toward The City, and further up to the Glasshouse Mountains and Moreton Bay. Next, head onto Mount Nebo Road, which is known to be one of the best driving roads near Brisbane due to its breathtaking scenery. Follow this tree-lined route that winds its way up to Mount Nebo, before continuing on to Mount Glorious Road, then through to Highvale, Samford Valley and back to Ferrari headquarters. This journey was tested by a group who attended Ferrari’s Driven Women event, made even more exciting behind the wheel of the new Ferrari 296 GTB. This superb vehicle features a V6 twin-turbo hybrid engine that can go from zero to 200 km per hour in less than eight seconds or zero to 100 km in less than three. This mid-rear-engined two-seater sports car provides a seriously fun and addictive maximum performance drive, but also a comfortable one that is perfect for everyday cruising.

Strapped for time? The Samuel Griffith Drive is perfect for you. Its close proximity to The City makes it easily accessible if you only have time for a shorter drive and it circles around Mount Coot-tha, which means it delivers some spectacular scenic vistas. The round trip only takes 19 minutes so you can do it once, twice, or as many times as you like until you get tired of the views, but we can assure you, you won’t. Starting in Toowong, this route will take you through the Mount Coot-tha Reserve, Silky Oak Picnic Area and the Brisbane Botanic Gardens before finishing at the Mount Coot-Tha Summit lookout.

Another one close to home is a driving tour of Brisbane’s beautiful bayside towns. The perfect Sunday cruise, this route starts at Redland Bay and takes you up the coastline through Victoria Point, before heading to Cleveland. You can stop here for a bite to eat or a coffee break before jumping back in the car to head to Wellington Point, where you’ll enjoy surrounding water views all the way to King Island. Finally it’s onto Wynnum and Manly before heading back to Brisbane.

A round-up of the best scenic drives near Brisbane wouldn’t be complete without a cruise through the Scenic Rim. Our suggested route is one that takes you through fabulous fields of fresh flowers, historic towns, a camel farm and endless views that deliver that great country atmosphere. From Brisbane, head through Ipswich and onto Harrisville where you can spot some camels at Summer Land Camels, then just four minutes south is where you’ll spy fields full of flourishing flowers at Kalbar. From Kalbar, head to the charming country town of Boonah, which boasts views across fertile valleys to the encircling mountains of the Scenic Rim. If you’re short on time you can head back to Brisbane from here, or continue your journey through Beaudesert to Lamington National Park. This breathtaking route, while windy, is certainly worth the drive. It takes you through thick rainforest, past wineries, an alpaca farm and some pretty incredible lookouts.
