Wynnum Plaza shopping centre set for multi-million dollar upgrade

Brisbane’s bayside could be set for a major facelift if an application for a multi-million dollar redevelopment of Wynnum Plaza shopping centre is successful. The development application has been submitted by Shayher Group to Brisbane City Council for a large-scale integrated mixed-use development that will comprise new shops, casual-dining precincts, a cinema and eight new apartment buildings.

Designed by Zenx architects, the proposed redevelopment of Wynnum Plaza will be the first major works on the centre since 2006 and the most extensive in the development’s history. If approved, the plan will expand the centre’s Gross Floor Area (GFA) by 12,795-sqm, the majority of which will be dedicated to new retail uses, and will inject 184 multiple dwelling units across eight residential apartment buildings. The units will be located above the podium level retail with parking below.

The development proposal stitches together new and existing buildings and has subdivided the site into four distinct precincts. If approved, the development will be delivered in stages to allow the shopping centre to remain operational throughout construction and is reportedly expected to be finished in late 2024 or 2025. The development application for this project is available to view on Brisbane City Council’s Planning & Development Online under A005379691.
