Meals are meant to be enjoyed together. In an age where watching dinner in front of the television has become the cultural norm, it’s nice to gather around a beautifully designed table and celebrate a delicious meal, good conversation and just spend time with one another.

Creating a table that subconsciously pulls people together like a magnet is Vonnegut/Kraft, a design studio founded in New York City in 2011 by Katrina Vonnegut and Brian Kraft. The Desert Dining Table features unique, octagonal-shaped legs, which taper up to a bold powder-coated yellow frame, serving as a vibrant underscore to a top that draws upon classic joinery. The teak tabletop is finished with a choice of oil or wax, and if you’re not too fussed on the yellow steel, custom colours are also available for an additional fee.

Utilising local and regional resources, the design duo are dedicated to maintaining a balance between contemporary technological manufacturing and traditional handmade craftsmanship. Marrying Katrina’s background in furniture and textile design with Brian’s experience as a craftsman and builder, Vonnegut/Kraft produces furniture, lighting, textiles and custom millwork for a range of applications. Focusing on patterns, texture and material relationships, the pair explore formal and unconventional building techniques to create functional works with liveability at their core.
