A meeting of minds creates Kangaroo Point’s new luxury residence Thornton

Every time we cruise across the Story Bridge from Kangaroo Point to The Valley, we marvel at the inner-city skyline and its twinkling majesty. A brand-new luxury apartment development from JGL Properties is looking to capitalise on this splendour, with a collection of private four-bedroom, whole-floor apartments planned for Thornton Street in Kangaroo Point. This residential wonder is the result of a collaboration between an architect, a gallerist, an artist and a chef – each instilling a bit of their own magic to create residences that are considered, creative and covetable.

With the forthcoming arrival of the pedestrian and bicycle green bridge spanning the Brisbane River from Eagle Street to Kangaroo Point, it won’t be long before the peninsula suburb becomes one of the city’s most desired areas. Capitalising on Kangaroo Point’s central proximity and riverside lifestyle is Thornton – a new luxury apartment development in the works from JGL Properties. Thornton (which draws its name from the cross-river Thornton ferry) will feature thirteen full-floor north-facing residences, each boasting sweeping views of the inner city and world-class amenities designed by a committee of renowned Brisbane and Australia-based visionaries. Thornton’s modern design and selection of mod-cons has been conceived and curated by Liam Proberts of local architecture firm bureau^proberts, distinguished art dealer and patron Philip Bacon AM, artist Ralph Wilson, and renowned chef and restaurateur Thierry Galichet of La Cache à Vín. Each member has brought their respective expertise to the fore to help design residences that are much more than just a place to rest one’s head.

The building will boast a timeless exterior and interior favouring strength, utility and fluidity – all dedicated to maximising the natural assets of the development’s prime location. Thornton’s recreation spaces – which includes an elevated podium heated pool – will look to capture views of the Story Bridge, CBD, and Botanic Gardens. Each four-bedroom abode (featuring a palette of marble, natural stone and oak timber floors) will come with a sizeable balcony oriented to the north, with living spaces wrapped in glass to maintain the connection with the vista. Eyelid-style openings allowing the flow of breezes across these spaces, including the open-plan kitchen and lounge. Thierry Galichet’s input has ensured that each kitchen is a chef’s dream, with purpose-built fixtures like an eight-metre linear galley bench (crafted from Noceto Striato stone), electronic drop-down bar, pull-out champagne draws, wine fridges, Gaggenau 400 Series appliances and an integrated BBQ and bar on the balcony making entertaining a must. Those with an eye for art will revel in Thornton’s approach to making every residence a private gallery, with Erco lighting and advanced art hanging systems (the specs of which have been dictated by Philip Bacon) ensuring your collection is more than just a simple piece of decor. This attention to detail extends to the lobby, where a commissioned three-piece artwork by Ralph Wilson acts as an eye-catching welcoming moment for residents and guests.
