The Joinery will soon open in West End

West End will soon have a full social calendar with event space The Joinery set to open this month.

You might have already tried to peek behind the scaffolding at 244 Montague Road in West End for a glimpse at the intriguing building that will soon be unveiled as The Joinery.

The loving creation of local sisters Penny Culpo and Maria Nicolaou, who were dismayed at the lack of dynamic events spaces in Brisbane, the sleek new venue takes residence in what was once a dilapidated warehouse that has since been revamped by local firm KP ArchitectsThe stunning interiors combine striking white metal, with exposed brick, polished concrete floors and high ceilings. Able to comfortably accommodate up to 400 people standing, The Joinery (currently open for bookings) is bound to be a choice locale for weddings and chic corporate events.

The art of hospitality is nothing new for the sisters, who learned it from their father Reg (a Greek migrant who arrived in Australia at the age of 13), and their mother Sylvia (who migrated from Cyprus in 1950)The family ran several food venues before founding Chez Nous Corporate, which now also has a kitchen in The Joinery and will exclusively cater all events.

The venue’s name is inspired by the plywood panelling that creates the seamless interior of the converted warehouse, and is also a reference to what the duo hopes The Joinery will succeed in doing – bringing people and community together.
