Get cosy in the Snug Chair by abalos
While not quite sculptural, the humble beanbag inspires feelings of comfort and cosiness, as its mouldable shape hugs tightly to your figure. Similarly, the unique hollow form of the Snug Chair spoons your seated body, meaning you can do away with the foam-filled floor couches.
Celebrating craft-based and traditional artisan skills in modern furniture design, the Snug Chair has been handmade by weaving artisans using skills passed down through generations. The indoor leisure seat uses recyclable steel tube within the frame, which is cloaked in eco-friendly round core rattan in natural or dark grey. The piece is environmentally sustainable to produce, with the organic rattan sourced from sustainable plantation farms, while the majority of production focuses around handwork and minimal machinery. The challenge that sparked the design was to create an organic-shaped seat out of a hollow singular form, which also draws inspiration from the shape and aesthetic of a beanbag.
The creation of Sydney designer Dennis Abalos, the Snug Chair also comes in a lacquered fibreglass form. After studying industrial and furniture design, Dennis now designs and produces his own collection of furniture, lighting and homewares under the abalos brand. The design studio works across the disciplines of graphic, industrial, product and interior design, focusing on creating design that is innovative, functional and environmentally sustainable.
