Ned Kahn signs on to turn Southpoint’s facade into art installation

One of the country’s most celebrated environmentally minded artists Ned Kahn has been commissioned to transform the frontage of Anthony John Group’s Southpoint development into one of the country’s biggest public art installations.

As Anthony John Group‘s Southpoint inches closer to completion in South Bank, news has emerged of the final details of the three-tower development, which has been scheduled for completion in late 2017. Renowned artist Ned Kahn has come on board to create a sizeable installation art piece, which will measure over 3,800 square metres across all three towers via a kinetic screen. Reportedly drawing inspiration from the local landscape and the reflective afternoon light of Brisbane’s skyline, the piece will comprise thousands of panels of extruded aluminium in four tones, which with move independently to create a wind-responsive artwork that reflects light.

Ned Kahn has produced works that can be seen on London’s Oxford Street, Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands and at Abu Dhabi’s carbon neutral city Masdar – not to mention his Turbulent Line installation at Brisbane Airport. The acclaimed artist is known for combining art and science in his work, exploring the physics and magical nature of the world’s primary elements. Southpoint’s three towers will include luxury apartments, a new Emporium hotel, office space and retail locations.
