Little Building Co makes architectural model kits
Reinventing the 3D puzzles of your childhood – or perhaps you’re midway through building one on the kitchen table as we speak – Little Building Co creates beautifully crafted timber model kits of renowned architectural edifices.
The brainchild of Marcus Bree, Little Building Co was inspired by the grand architectural masterpieces seen while travelling, and the lack of thoughtful souvenirs to acquire as a keepsake. Marcus’ latest work, which has taken four years to develop, is an extremely accurate model of the Sydney Opera House. The model kit allows average kitchen-table tinkerers to construct their own iconic architectural masterpiece that has been thoughtfully engineered, yet is simple to assemble.
To create the Sydney Opera House model, Marcus firstly sought approval to commence development from Jan Utzon (architect Jørn Utzon’s son), before choosing a scale for the model and working from photographs and books to decipher the details. He then sourced and tested a variety of materials, adopting laser-engraved and -cut timber for this replica. Marcus has just successfully raised funding on Kickstarter to build an initial 1000 units and move the model along into the production stage.
