Local artists invited to enter the King Street Canvas competition

In the lead up to the opening of Brisbane Showgrounds’ new high street, King Street, Lend Lease has invited Queensland artists to create an artwork for submission to the King Street Canvas Competition.

The competition is open to artists of all skill levels aged 13 years and over, and the artworks must celebrate and interpret the past, present and future of the King Street location and represent one of the four place pillars on the Brisbane Showgrounds – key themes that will guide and shape the future vision of the precinct. The four place pillars are modern history – authentic traditions or landmarks that have stood the test of time mixed with modern experiences; paddock to plate – a showcase of Queensland’s finest produce; hyper local – rural values embedded in an urban environment; and urban eclectic – showcasing life on the city fringe.

The eight winning King Street Canvas entries will be placed on display in the street and its surrounds for ten weeks, adding to the overall vision of the precinct. There are also eight cash prizes of $1000 to be won. Entries opened on May 5, 2015 and artwork images should be uploaded via the Live King Street website by May 31, 2015. Four winning entries will be chosen via a public vote, with voting open on the Facebook competition page between June 4–25. The remaining four winners will be chosen by a judging panel from the Brisbane Showgrounds regeneration project. For competition details and information on how to enter, head to the Live King Street website.
