Simplify your everyday with Groupwork

Group assignments at school or university were usually the worst. Rather than generating great ideas, you often left the project thinking it would have been easier to do it on your own. Melbourne design collective Groupwork is the complete opposite to that, dedicated to making your everyday actions thoughtful, practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Groupwork is a project-based collective, head up by Sarah Trotter, who is also the director of interior architecture practice Hearth Studio. Bringing together groups of forward-thinking designers, artists and makers for each project, Groupwork aims to rethink everyday household products and actions to make them the best that they can possibly be.

The most recent project to emerge from Groupwork is Simplify, the third in a series tackling design problems. For this project the team, comprised of Sarah, Esther Stewart and Murray Barker, set out to design a range of innovative bathroom fittings and accessories that are all at once striking, minimalist, functional and versatile. The collection features a toilet roll and towel rack, which can be customised with various blocks and vessels to store and hold objects. Perfect for small spaces, this allows for a variety of functions with only two wall penetrations, and minimal space required. The fittings are simple to install and remove, and are all designed and made in Melbourne from solid brass with oak accessories.

After first exhibiting at Milan Design Week in 2014, the products are now available from the Groupwork website, with further finishes and collaborations to be released in the coming months.
