Architecture and furniture design overlap in Detail and manner

Brisbane architects Vokes and Peters has curated an exhibition of pieces designed by practicing architects that explore the relationship between interior and exterior design.

The intrinsic relationship between large-scale building projects and the small-scale interior touches is crucially important, though each discipline is typically divided by occupational boundaries. As a continuation of conceptual execution, architect-designed furniture can bring together and unite an aesthetic. Vokes and Peters have toiled to hone their design work as companions to the overall spaces they construct. Architects Stuart Vokes and Aaron Peters have put together an exhibition that looks at their own forays into furniture design, showcasing the importance of small details, how a room’s design is dictated by its use and how the interior elements engage occupants as much at the exterior design.

Detail and manner is a multi-faceted exhibition that showcases a range of objects collaboratively designed with craftspeople. The collection is being displayed at Artisan in Fortitude Valley from Friday March 4 to Saturday April 9, consisting of works designed by Stuart and Aaron from 2003 to present. Utility tables, bedside libraries, chairs, stools and bureaus are some of the furniture pieces being exhibited, drawing upon design influences from overseas and local sources – blending casework and carpentry to be engaging visually an intellectually.
