The Forsyth Rope Works, established by Archibald Forsyth, was an important site in East Brisbane the late 1800s. As a hub for supplying local boats trading along the Brisbane River, the site made a significant contribution to the local industry. Rothelowman is continuing its trend of drawing upon Brisbane’s early history as inspiration for its development concepts, following on from West End’s Glass Factory and Light + Co with Corde, a new apartment complex set for Manilla Street. Boasting a bronze façade reminiscent of the overlapping patterns of the rope making process, Corde (French for rope) will pay tribute to the old Forsyth Rope Works, which was located across from the development site.

Corde is set to overlook East Brisbane with 11 storeys of apartments featuring a mix of 60 one, two and three bedroom abodes plus retail offerings on street level. The motif of rope will continue throughout the entirety of the development as the ‘fabric of urban living’. Corde looks to benefit from the forthcoming Wynnum Road upgrade, which will link to an integrated bus, rail and ferry transport system. The development is expected to be complete by early 2017.
