Coorparoo Myer building set for redevelopment
Plans to redevelop the site of the old Coorparoo Myer building have been lodged to council, turning the location into a multi-use residential, retail and transit-orientated precinct. Set along Old Cleveland Road in Coorparoo, the development aligns with future plans for the underground Eastern Busway, a well as providing pedestrian connection to the current bus service upgrades in the interim.
Honeycombes Property, which executes a number of projects in North Queensland as well as Brisbane, has submitted the development application, while Conrad Gargett is behind the design. The site will see a mix of retail, commercial and residential spaces cater to a diverse community of residents, workers and commuters and their daily needs. Three towers will eventuate over three stages of the development. Stage one will see an 18-level residential tower built with retail tenancies at ground level, as well as a two-level building with retail on the lower level and commercial offices above. The central tower will be built in stage two, with retail opportunities at ground level, while stage three will complete the development with the final residential tower and a temporary green space, which will become the public entry space to the Eastern Busway in the future.
Necessary parking spaces will line the basement for both visitors to the complex and residents, and residents from all towers will have access to common areas, including a lap pool, small gymnasium, large landscaped garden, barbecue facilities, garden shelters and a resort-style beach pool. A focal point of the design is the creation of shady pedestrian streetscapes and spaces – a much-needed addition to this pocket of Brisbane, where the sun beats down hot on the concrete walkways and the elements sweep through the exposed corner.
