Iconic Bulimba ferry terminal reopens
After closing earlier this year for a much-needed upgrade, the historic Bulimba ferry terminal has finally reopened, increasing its previous capacity and adding new and faster services from its Oxford Street location.
The Bulimba ferry terminal has been operational for more than 100 years, and the iconic blue and orange timber pavilion that remains today was built in 1925 – both it and its boat ramp are State Heritage listed. But as Brisbane’s busiest suburban ferry terminal, Bulimba was in need for a serious renovation.
After closing in August this year, the ferry terminal reopened over the weekend, now with increased capacity providing seating for an additional 30 people, easier access for those with a disability, improved efficiency via the installation of a new dual-berth pontoon, improved flood resistance and an enhanced shelter. The new Bulimba ferry terminal design takes a minimalist approach so as to not distract from the existing waiting pavilion, and is sustainably designed to complement the surrounding natural environment. The renewed terminal now allows for faster services, as well as the addition of a new express service in the morning from Bulimba to Riverside. New timetables can be accessed at the terminal, or downloaded on Translink’s website.
