The Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards announced for 2015

The results of the 2015 Brisbane Regional Architecture Awards were announced on Friday May 8, with judges handing out 45 regional commendations and two major awards.

The top John Dalton Award for Building of the Year went to Conrad Gargett Lyons for its design of the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital. The project took out a number of other commendations in the awards, for urban design, art and architecture, interior architecture and public architecture. House of the Year went to Jule House from Claire Humphreys and Kevin O’Brien Architects, which also received a commendation for new residential architecture.

Regional commendations were spread across 11 categories, ranging from urban design and multiple residential architecture to public and educational architecture. bureau^proberts’ M&A picked up commendations for urban design and multiple residential, and its Bellbowrie public pool building for art and architecture and public architecture. Interior commendations included TRYP on Constance from Shane Denman Architects and The University of Queensland Global Change Institute from HASSELL, which also received a commendation for educational architecture.

Residential commendations went to a number of new houses or alterations and additions, including Owen and Vokes and Peters’ West End Cottage and Sandgate Pier House, James Russell Architect’s Christian Street House and Ellivo Architects’ Paddington Residence. Winners of the regional commendations will move on to the Queensland State Architecture Awards, set to be announced on June 26.
