Plans unveiled for $2 billion Brisbane Live entertainment precinct
If the largest venue operator in the Asia Pacific region has its way, Brisbane City will soon become home to a mega entertainment precinct, featuring a 17,000-seat world-class arena.
New York City has Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles has LA Live, and soon Brisbane could have Brisbane Live – a $2 billion world-class arena that has the potential to re-shape our fair city and elevate our tourism value to the next level. Proposed by AEG-Ogden – a subsidiary company of AEG, the world’s largest entertainment venue operator – the precinct would make use of the airspace above the existing Roma Street rail lines, as well as the connectivity that Roma Street has to every rail line in the South East Queensland rail network.
The masterplan, which was put forward to the state government for consideration in early May, features a 17,000-seat arena, equipped to host the most spectacular of music concerts and world sporting events. The arena will also include a 4000-capacity rock club, multiplex cinemas, restaurants and bars, and a giant screen and amphitheatre catering for around 15,000 people. In the long-term, AEG-Ogden see the precinct being home to new hotels, up to 4,000 new apartments including a signature 90-storey residential tower, new commercial towers, and the possibility of an educational campus. Substantial public space, around the size of New Farm Park, has also been earmarked. Stay tuned for updates on this potentially city-transforming development.
