Brisbane Airport Corporation plans domestic terminal hotels
Change is a-happening at Brisbane Airport. A freshening up of the International Terminal is underway, designed by Richards & Spence in collaboration with Arkhefield, and now Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has put plans in motion to create a new hotel precinct at the domestic terminal.
A fast-growing city in a fast-growing region, drawing global-scale events, requires an airport that is not only as pleasant as possible to use, but also provides the comforts one has come to enjoy on international airport lay-overs. Continuing the charge forward as a new-world city, BAC has proposed major development plans for a hotel site set on an existing carpark along Dryandra Drive.
The development will be set next to the current long-stay multi-level car park and include conference facilities. The site will feature two hotels – one five-star hotel with 125 rooms and a 3.5-star hotel with 225 rooms. The precinct will also provide retail opportunities through in-house food and beverage outlets, and solve ever-growing parking conundrums with its own basement carpark. An innovative, flexible building design will incorporate best-practice sustainable architecture, and a pedestrian link to the domestic terminal will create ease and accessibility of transferring from the hotel. If approved, construction will commence from June this year, with completion expected by March 2016.
