ARIA supports local handmade ceramics industry

Restaurant kitchens can be chaotic places. Boiling pots, sizzling pans, plates being dropped in haste – all to deliver a hot, perfectly poised meal to hundreds of diners each evening.

Fine-dining institution ARIA has decided that its meals should sit on tableware that equally matches the laborious efforts that go into creating the perfect meld of flavour and texture. The restaurant group’s chefs Simon Sandall and Matt Moran will soon be plating up duck consommé and apple wood-smoked kingfish on local ceramicist Kim Wallace’s handcrafted clay creations.

In a brilliant show of support for the Australian handmade industry, this commission has seen Kim producing small bowls in a natural stone-coloured clay for the restaurant. Creating a point of difference in time for the new menu launch, ARIA has become known for sourcing standout handmade servingware where possible. We think Kim’s bowls will inject an element of calm into the kitchen, and enhance the serenity that surrounds the taking of each delectable bite while dining.
