Celebrate 20 years with APT7 at GOMA

This weekend sees the much-awaited opening of The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT7) at GOMA. Established in 1993, APT is the flagship international contemporary art event for the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art.

This year’s free exhibition marks the 20th anniversary of APT – the only major exhibition series in the world that draws focus to the contemporary art of Asia, the Pacific and Australia. This latest instalment will occupy the entire Gallery of Modern Art as well as sections within the Queensland Art Gallery.

Showcasing new and recent works by 75 emerging and established artists and groups from 27 countries, APT7 will also premiere 13 interactive artworks and installations for children and their families in the beloved Kids’ APT7.

The opening weekend will see live performances come together with artist talks, in conversations and panel discussions, with the full program available to browse here. APT7 Up Late will be a one-night-only event on Saturday December 8, celebrating the launch of this new exhibition with performances by local musicians, guest DJs and Syrian folk-pop artist, Omar Souleyman.

Patrons will also be able to sample cuisine from the regions, with Asian flavours appearing on the GOMA Lounge Bar menu. Running from December 8, 2012, to April 14, 2013, APT7 is a momentous presentation of Asia-Pacific art across sculpture, painting, film and installation.
