Brisbane Festival line-up launch 2013

Brisbane Festival announces line-up for 2013

Brisbane Festival this week announced its busy line-up of events for 2013 and it’s looking to be an exciting celebration of the arts. Running from September 7–28, the festival will bring a talented scope of musicians, physical performers and new-media artists from all over the world to South Bank’s cultural forecourt and beyond.

Amongst the line-up for 2013, musician Paul Kelly will string his words together with those of W.B Yeats, Judith Wright, Les Murray and Kenneth Slessor in Conversations with Ghosts. In a world premiere, Freeze Frame, choreographed by Emmy Award-winning Debbie Allen, will transport the passion and pain of Los Angeles’ toughest streets all the way to Brisbane.

In an Australian premiere, Circa and Quatuor Debussy combine string quartets and acrobats to perform physical music in Opus. From Germany, LEO will break-dance up walls, while from the UK and Columbia URBAN will exhibit the circus of the streets, infusing reggae, Latin and hip-hop music with acrobatics. Cabaret legend Ute Lemper is also set to wow the crowds as she sings the love poems of Pablo Neruda. The line-up also features theatre styles ranging from high camp, to dark, to absurdly humorous erotic finger puppetry and haunting journeys of movement and soundscapes.

The streets of Brisbane will be enlivened by a spectacular light installation, the Spiegeltent Garden Bar and the Santos GLNG Lounge by the river. Food and drink will be plentiful and picnics are welcomed. To see the full line-up, visit the Brisbane Festival website.
