Beyond the wardrobe walls – the Easton Pearson Archive unlocks a history of fashion

When it comes to dynamic duos, they don’t come much better than Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson. Over the course of 27 years, these two fabulous women changed the face of Australian fashion with their eponymous label Easton Pearson. Their truly visionary designs and unique approach has left a seriously impressive legacy – and an even more breathtaking archive of pieces to pore over. The Designers’ Guide: Easton Pearson Archive is arriving at the Museum of Brisbane from Friday November 23 to provide a glimpse inside a brand that has captivated our country for almost three decades – and whose influence is still felt today. more

Home to everyone – 24-hour gastropub Beirne Lane opens in The Valley

Last Friday, Fortitude Valley’s Brunswick Street Mall welcomed the anticipated new arrival from the Celissa Group, Beirne Lane – a 24-hour haven that allows guests to dine all day, drink all day and dance all night. The newest tenant of the revitalised T.C. Beirne Building is drawing upon the enterprising spirit of its home’s namesake, looking to be a welcoming hybrid of bar and restaurant hospitality that reflects Thomas Charles Beirne’s Irish heritage, fascination with Japan and his love for Fortitude Valley. more

The Weekend Series: sneaking around – five sets of kicks to take you into summer

Real talk – when it comes to the realm of shoes, sneakers are just an all-around winner. They look cool, they’re comfortable to wear and there are so many variations that even if you’re not a certified sneakerhead, you’re bound to find a style you like. Not only that, but the best brands have got the game of combining function and aesthetics down to an art. There are so many hot sneaker drops happening that it’s hard to keep up, but we’ve picked five of our favourites that we simply couldn’t resist. more

Teneriffe scores big with heritage hideaway Streetcorner Jimmy

The name James Gibbon would only be familiar to those with a knowledge of Brisbane's early history, but unbeknownst to the greater population, the merchant turned land speculator and politician had a profound impact on the city throughout the 1800s. The man directly responsible for giving Teneriffe its name owned a considerable amount of property, including a particular fondness for corner tenancies. Affectionately known as Streetcorner Jimmy, James’ accumulated land now forms Teneriffe’s heritage centre, and a new bar at the base of the London Woolstore is celebrating the area’s history while breathing some new life into the Vernon Terrace strip. more
