Lose the gift card – let hampers help you out this Christmas

Christmas – a season of merriment and joy for some, sheer panic for others. The primary cause of this panic? Gifting. Specifically, gifting for those hard-to-buy-for types. What do you buy for the dad who has everything? How do you please the mother-in-law with impossibly high standards and an unhealthy attachment to her shih tzu? Some people are near impossible to shop for and, unlike crop circles and bigfoot, there aren’t any Reddit threads devoted to solving these mysteries. Here’s where The Hamper Emporium steps in. more

Katsu, congee and coffee – West End nook The Garner covers all the bases

Ethan Dou has already made his mark on Brisbane's coffee scene with his respected boutique brew nook Street Lab Specialty Coffee, but the avowed foodie craved the chance to try his hand at a cafe-style concept. After linking up with friend and chef Jerry Huang, the tandem snagged an ideal spot on the leafy West End strip of Browning Street. The duo's new cafe The Garner pairs Ethan's coffee nous with Jerry's menu of nourishing nosh, serving up delectable brew and brunch fare imbued with Asian-inspired quirks. more

Bandsome is bringing menswear back to (sustainable) basics

It’s an exciting time for menswear – the once hard-and-fast rules of dapper dressing have been thrown out the window in favour of experimental style. But where do you turn to when your neon bum-bag and platform sneakers inevitably fall out of fashion? To basics. A good tee and a reliable pair of pants are the bread and butter of most men’s wardrobes no matter what they throw on top. Bandsome is a brand that understands this, so it’s dedicating itself to producing the best basics out there in sustainable style. more

E tū is turning festival waste into everyday bags

It may be hard to believe but there was once a time when camp gear cost a pretty penny because it was made from rugged materials and built to last. These days, you can pick up a two person tent for as little as $12. The availability of low-cost camping equipment coupled with the rise in summer music festivals has created a perfect storm with a report from Green Music Australia revealing that one in five attendees at Falls Festival, Party in the Paddock and Unify purchased a new tent for the festival and that punters were four times more likely to abandon it if their friend did it too. While it's indeed a bleak scenario, there is a glimmer of hope – Melbourne's E tū is turning the tide on festival waste and transforming discarded tents into everyday bags. more

Buon appetito! Salumi Sagra returns with another authentic Italian feast

It’s important to take the time to stop and smell the salumi. Day to day, a busy lifestyle can mean the closest you get to a culinary experience is nibbling a breakfast bar in peak hour traffic. The busy person’s version of an Italian feast? A late-night takeaway pizza. Here’s where Salumi Sagra steps in, with a flavourful five-course Italian lunch to remind us what authentic Italian cooking tastes like. So slow down and plate up on Sunday November 17 at West Village – your taste buds will thank you later. more

Step right up – Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq opens at UPSTAIRS at Toombul

It's hard not to succumb to the allure of a carnival – the bright lights, adrenaline-fuelled attractions and covetable prizes make for an exhilarating experience. That being said, carnivals are typically transient, with various roaming operations popping up for a few nights of fun before moving on. Aside from the EKKA, it's hard to know exactly when you'll be able to savour convivial funfair delights again. Well, until now. Today, Thursday November 14, marks the arrival of Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq – a modern interpretation of the classic carnival spectacular. This all-in-one entertainment concept is bringing the dazzling spectacle of the fairground to Toombul's new dining playground UPSTAIRS, from its cutting-edge arcade games, sideshow thrill rides and menu of eye-popping eats and drinks – on offer seven days a week. more
