The Foundry
Red Hill
A cavernous wooden building filled with sleepy machines and tools from eras gone by has become the workshop of a group of makers in Red Hill. From 1874–1973, the space operated at The Windsor Brass Foundry, before an artist collective took up residence there in the 1970s. Now the space hosts The Foundry – a workshop for furniture makers and a blacksmith, with the dusty relics of the past slowly being cleared out to make more space for additional studios. There’s also a recording studio on-site and a collection of slightly creepy statues left over from Expo 88, including an original Wally Lewis. The works of some of the makers behind The Foundry can be found at Brisbane Made in Paddington.
