A self-employed carpenter by day, building house extensions and the classic Queenslander deck throughout Paddington, West End, New Farm and Teneriffe, Anthony Potter leaped headfirst into unknown territory three months ago when a friend put his name forward to be part of an artistic collaboration. Paired with graphic designer Alexandra Naghavi for the Fifth Edition exhibition by Seven With Another, Ant has instilled his interested in using recycled and reusable building materials into their collaborative work. When working with his beloved wood wasn’t an option, Ant began to tinker with other raw materials, challenging himself and learning new skills like plumbing along the way. The result is a typographic work, where the materials contribute to the message behind the piece. With the exhibition launching at Brisbane Powerhouse tonight, The Weekend Edition caught up with Ant to discover his essentials for the perfect weekend.

How do you like to start your weekend?
Wake up early, sigh, then go back to sleep.

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning?
Eat an almond croissant.

How do you like to unwind?
Escaping up Mount Coot-tha with Sooty my dog.

What are your essentials for a well-spent weekend?
Reserving two whole hours for doing absolutely nothing.

What’s something you’ve been meaning to do on the weekend but haven’t got around to yet?
Cleaning the carb on my bike.

What’s your favourite thing to do on a Sunday evening?
Have a late dinner, followed by a walk around the deserted suburban streets.

What are you looking forward to next weekend?
Getting some fresh air in the bush.

What are you reading at the moment?
The Beach by Alex Garland.

What inspires you?
The prospect of being able to build something that is going change people’s way of living for years to come.

What was your childhood dream?
My father says that at a young age I asked for ‘one of those cards that you put in the wall that gives you money’. But I wanted to be a dairy farmer.

What has been your greatest achievement?
Getting one of those cards.

What is success to you?
Attaching a word document to an email.

What are your words of wisdom?
You can’t plough a field by turning it over in your mind.
