The Rice Hut

Nestled down a side street in the leafy Kenmore, The Rice Hut started out in 2012 as a market stall at the Jan Powers Farmers Markets. After the success of the market stall sisters Janette and Janine set to expand the menu and have a more permanent home to spread the love and passion of serving fresh, healthy and authentic Vietnamese food. Inspired by their grandmother who operated a successful restaurant in a small fishing village in Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s the girls passion for cooking has been passed down from their grandmother through their mother to them. During the civil war the family was forced to abandon Vietnam and their determination and ambition is alive today in The Rice Hut. The story of the family’s journey from Vietnam to Australia is lovingly documented on the walls of the restaurant demonstrating the emotion and passion of the business to its diners.  The Rice Hut has maintained a similar ‘food to go’ menu as the market stall but added an extensive all day breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Try Vietnamese style baked eggs with meatballs in a rich tomato based sauce, Vietnamese chicken curry, coconut sago pudding as well as creations the likes of Belly Slaw. All-time favourites rice paper rolls, Pho and Banh Mi are of course also on the menu.
