Throw on some interchangeable thongs from Willi Footwear
It’s a scenario that most flip-flop wearing Gold Coasters have experienced at one time or another, the dreaded thong blowout that leaves you stranded hopping on a hot surface. Gold Coast-based Willi Footwear is committed to making this a thing of the past with its patented boomerang thongs.
After going through three pairs of thongs in one week whilst backpacking in Europe, industrial designer Brad Munro, and brothers Aaron and Glenn Jennings, began crafting a more effective plug design. One insanely successful crowd-funding campaign that raised over $10,000 in the first hour and a few prototypes later, the lads launched Willi Footwear, which stands for Why Ignore Life? Live It!. Unlike regular thongs that feature a round plug that can pull through, Willi Footwear uses a clever patented boomerang shaped plug that promises to stay put.
Keen to completely reinvent the wheel, so to speak, the gents went a step further and created customisable straps so you can change your footwear to suit your outfit. There are four base and six strap colours including black, white, and the metallic range of red, blue, green and nude, allowing for 24 possible colour combinations. The sturdy flip flops are now available online.
