Given its name, you would be forgiven for thinking it’s tucked away down an alley, on the contrary, however, Hideaway Kitchen & Bar is hidden in plain sight on the Gold Coast Highway. Nestled between highrises, the new venue is the latest from Scott Imlach, owner of Bine Bar & Dining, and Jon Hizola, the former head chef at Etsu, so you know you’re in for a treat. Graffiti covers every square inch of wall space creating a dramatic backdrop whilst some seriously mouth-watering aromas waft out from the kitchen transporting you to the streets of Thailand. Out the back, a spacious alfresco deck lined with tables (and quirky hanging umbrellas) provides the perfect setting for long lunches that accidentally roll into cocktail-filled evenings.

Showcasing the best street-food from around Southeast Asia including Indonesian-style satay, Japanese-style beef and Filipino pork, the entire menu is designed for sharing. Enjoy a roving feast of beautifully delicate sashimi and a range of small plates or skip right to the hefty serves of whole tempura fish and 500-gram rib-eye steaks. Jon has gone to great lengths to source the best possible produce and all sauces including the soy are made in-house and are completely MSG-free. As you might expect, Scott has also curated a pleasing selection of swill including Asian beers, sake and cocktails with a hint of Asian flavour.
