Homewares emporium Co Design opens at Portside Wharf

Those who have frequented Co Design in the past may have noticed its recent departure from its Ascot lodgings. In search of a larger space to house its growing collection of wares and plans for a new cafe, Co Design has relocated to the Portside Wharf precinct.

As well as allowing for Co Design’s collection of homewares and jewellery to grow, the recent expansion also saw the opening of Deer Sir cafe within the shop. The cafe serves air-roasted Allpress coffee and light meals, with some of the cafe’s catering done by Kathy Heath (formerly of High Societea in Clayfield). A large communal table bridges the cafe and the shop, offering a spot for visitors to sip coffee amongst new and vintage wares. New additions to the decor are constantly being made, with the next being framed Vogue covers from the 1930s to be hung about the cafe.

New and old wares sidle alongside one another, creating a distinct aesthetic that the owners have purposefully tried to keep simple. As well as vintage furniture and antiques sourced from France (often traded in exchange for goods such as old coins), Co Design also stocks candles and a range of organic skincare from Neal’s Yard Remedies in the UK is soon to arrive in store. The larger space means that other new collections of goods are constantly arriving, and co-owner Michael Cotton is looking forward to many more overseas buying trips to source beautiful goods to fill the shop’s shelves.
