Kids of all ages can rejoice with the news that West End is now home to a brand new bookstore. Where The Wild Things Are on Boundary Street is the new-fangled younger sibling to Avid Reader that caters to young children and young adults in equal measure.

When Fiona Stager opened Avid Reader in 1997 it was with the purpose of bringing quality fiction and non-fiction books to the residents of West End and Brisbane at large. Over the years, Avid Reader increased in popularity and space within the store became limited. In October of 2014, Fiona and her team decided to expand operations to a neighbouring space to cater to the growing demand for books aimed at children and young adults and thus, Where The Wild Things Are was born.

Selling an extensive collection of books and gifts for babies through to those who are still kids at heart, Where The Wild Things Are is a warm and welcoming shop where families can browse and read at their leisure. Where The Wild Things Are operates on the mantra ‘let toys be toys and let books be books’, in other words, kids are encouraged to read based on their own interests without any gender bias or outside pressures. To maximise the enjoyment of reading the store boasts beanbags, chairs and even little hideaways where kids can lose themselves in the pages of their chosen book. Where The Wild Things Are features a selection of books from local, national and international authors. The space is pram friendly and has been decorated with help from local artisans and creatives. For opening hours and contact details, head to our Stumble Guide.
