After an overseas sojourn, Shane Walters was inspired to move from career musician to artisan, trading the lap steel guitar for stainless-steel water bottles and leather cases.

Vesica began as a humble idea formed by former musician Shane Walters after years travelling and living in America. After discovering the popularity of genuine-leather cases for water vessels, Shane was inspired to bring the idea home and produce his own variation. To encourage Australians to do away with plastic bottles, Vesica manufactures and sells functional leather cases for 800 ml and 532 ml water bottles using local and upcycled leather, sourced from wholesalers across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Shane searches for the best quality leather hides, sometimes sourcing rare and limited quantities to ensure that each batch of cases is unique. After being cut using a clicker press, the wraps are sealed with bees wax conditioner, embossed with totems and hand-stitched together using wax polyester twine. The leather cases are durable, functional and can last for more than ten years with proper care. In addition to the leather cases, Vesica also sells water bottles made from food-grade stainless steel, sourced from a fair-trade and BPA-free manufacturer in China. Those looking for a personal touch can have a leather case tailor made. Shane sells his quality wares (including wooden sunglasses and bamboo toothbrushes) at the Boundary Street Markets on Friday night and the Davies Park Markets every Saturday, as well as through his online store.

You can check out Vesica in action at the Earth Frequency Festival earlier this year.
