Urban Climb delivers boulders of fitness fun to Newstead

A new fitness craze has taken hold in Brisbane – fit for any gender or age. Bouldering is one of the newest indoor activities and Newstead now boasts a spot of its own.

This story holds a special place in our hearts here at The Weekend Edition. For more than ten years our office could be found tucked away behind the Standard Market Co., West Elm and Pottery Barn off James Street. Now, the building that we called home for so long has been converted into one of the more cutting edge functional-fitness locations in Brisbane. Urban Climb is a purveyor of bouldering, a new form of indoor rock-climbing that is increasing in popularity. This week the thriving mixed-use gym chain is opening its newest location on Morse Street in Newstead, following on from the tremendous popularity of its initial West End location.

Bouldering is a rope and partner-free activity that works multiple parts of the body – much like rock climbing – but with a more casual gym environment that promotes fun and fitness in equal measure. The boulders at Urban Climb offer a range of courses that are colour-coded based on ease, with yellow climbs ranking as the easiest with black pushing the limits. Urban Climb will boast classes that blend yoga, climbing-focused HIIT and technique classes. The Newstead location also features yoga and fitness facilities as well as collaborative workspaces for entrepreneurs that like to keep active. Urban Climb will be opening another location in Milton at the end of April. For contact details and opening hours, head to the Stumble Guide.
