Brush your pearly whites with Toothpaste Couto
Iron your shirt, fasten your watch, comb pomade through your hair, shave and, finally, brush your teeth. While getting ready to leave the house in a presentable state can often prove tedious, some tasks in life, such as brushing your teeth, are a matter of health and hygiene as well as common courtesy – no-one likes conversing with folk of bad breath now do they?
To help improve the dental health of Portuguese denizens in the early 1930s, dentist Alberto Ferreira Couto began to work on developing a product that would reduce infections and gum disease. After developing the first-known formula for toothpaste, Alberto registered his product named Medicinal Toothpaste Couto and the Portuguese population quickly adopted it.
Still available today in packaging that bears its original 1930s design, Toothpaste Couto continues to be considered one of the finest toothpastes available. Thankfully, the recipe has been tweaked over the years to remove ingredients of animal origin, but the toothpaste is still made from natural ingredients and retains its trademark strong minty flavour.
