paper boat press opens shop and gallery at Ashgrove

Boutique ceramic studio paper boat press has moved from its private leafy studio in Milton to a public and newly opened shop-meets-gallery space in Ashgrove. The creation of Kylie Johnson, paper boat press imprints poetic pearls of wisdom into handmade ceramics.

A ceramist, artist, potter and poet, Kylie has been stamping her own poetry or others’ inspiring quotations into ceramics since 1996. From gift tags and jewellery to bowls and plates, paper boat press brings whimsy to the kitchen or china cabinet. Cloud shapes form brooches and magnets, with dreamy passages gracing notebooks, cards and even a calendar for next year.

Having pined after an odd-shaped little 1920s-built store in Ashgrove for years, Kylie seized fate with both hands when the suburban building became available last month. A paint job, new awnings and some paper boat press signage later and the space has been transformed into a shop, studio and gallery space for all things handmade with love. Pottery and jewellery artisans will have the opportunity to exhibit works in the front gallery space, which is currently home to paper boat press Christmas ornaments, perfect for the tree or as gift tags around presents.
