Aerial Yoga, Brisbane

Keep resolutions with a new fitness routine

Tired of sweaty gyms and running in circles around the neighbourhood, we’ve sought out a few fun alternatives to getting (or keeping) fit for this new year.

Aerial Yoga

A fitness style that fuses elements of dance, yoga, aerial arts and Pilates, Antigravity Aerial Yoga relieves compressed joints and aligns the body, while also building strength and flexibility. Performed with the aid of a hammock, aerial yoga classes will see you stretch out tight muscles, crunch abs and learn to invert and flip. Check out Flight Skool at West End for more details and class times.

Xtend Barre

A blend of Pilates and dance, Xtend Barre sculpts the body, strengthening and stretching muscles through a mesh of basic ballet and Pilates moves, with some use of small weights. Each class runs for 55 minutes, in which you’ll work towards improving posture, toning arms and gaining a long and lean physique. You can now find Xtend Barre classes at Fine Lines Pilates & Movement in Toowong and Body Revolutions in Newmarket.

Cycle Style

The easiest (and cheapest) form of exercise is to walk everywhere. But in our fast-paced, modern age, walking to and from work, the farmers markets or to a breakfast date on the weekend can take up too much precious time. Make an effort to slow down your day by investing in a bicycle and ride to commitments instead. And we’re not talking lycra-clad speed-demon riding – no one wants to be sweaty for brunch – think of it more of a glide in your nicest of outfits. You’ll be helping the hip pocket by buying less petrol for your car and being kinder to the environment too. Mother Nature will be happy and your legs will look fabulous.

Swim Laps

We live in Queensland. It’s hot in summer. Swimming laps each morning just makes sense. You can find a list of city pools here.
