Drape yourself in glass beads from Leah’s Creative Glass Designs

Created by the Ancient Romans and Egyptians to adorn the upperclass and royals, glass beads have long been considered a fine accessory. Today the process of glass-bead making continues as an artisan craft by those with the passion to convert a piece of glass into a ball of beauty, adding intricate details to create unique statement pieces.

Leah from Leah’s Creative Glass Designs is one such artisan from Allora, just outside of Warwick in the Darling Downs. Leah hand makes lampwork beads using a single fuel torch to heat the glass, adding in other coloured glass to to create unusual patterns.

As each of Leah’s beads are made individually, each pattern is unique to that bead. Leah uses the finest glass she can get her hands on, mainly from Italy, and then works her magic to transform the beads into necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings. Leah’s bead embroidery is also a work of art, and you can browse her wares when she visits Eat Street Markets on April 17–18 when Southern Queensland Country brings its best producers and artisans to town.
