Kowtow releases architecturally inspired collection

In simplicity, there is beauty. Few understand this better than Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who is the inspiration behind Kowtow’s latest collection of minimalist threads.

Our built environment has the ability to make us feel the full scope of emotions – from the serenity of a homecoming to the trepidation of entering a sacred space. Just as the work of architect Tadao Ando speaks of serenity and stillness, the new collection from Kowtow conveys the power of simplicity. The Silent Space forms part 1 of the label’s summer 2013/14 collection, which will be shadowed by The Stolen Space in October.

Tailored shapes and oversized garments display a neutral colour palette of bone, lemon, white and grey, with accents of summer coral in a geometric print. Shirt-dresses, tunics, parkers and jumpsuits carry architecturally inspired names like skylight, shadow and building block, reinforcing the collection’s tagline that ‘the body is only passing through’. Director Gosia Piatek has crafted a chic range of designs from premium-certified fairtrade and organic cotton, as well as dyes free from pesticides and formaldehyde.
